Noise Machine

There’s this guy called Mike Grierson giving a presentation as part of the Future of Sound roadshow on Thurs 1st of march. Strangely there’s a picture of me on the website instead.

The whole thing has been set up by Martyn Ware of The Human League. There’s a rumour that Vince Clarke is also involved. New Life was one of the first pop songs to sound exactly the same on the record as it did on an Oric Atmos.

Anyway, ‘Mike’ will be talking about the relationship between Stan Brakhage, Len Lye, Oskar Fischinger and real-time audiovisual crazyness. I will also do a version of being boiled just for my own amusement. This will be performed on the spoons. God I love that song.

I don’t know why people dislike using the name Mick. If I have to be called Mike then I’m growing a moustache. Check it out. The proof is in the pudding.

Edit - Someone has pointed out that I do actually have a moustache. The key thing is that it’s accompanied by a beard. This is very different.

There’s an article on some of my experimental work over at in to the pill, an online experimental filmmaking zine. They’re also showing some of my work which has not yet been seen on the internet - an extract from a live recording of revelation6, and a piece of audiovisual fractalisation which they’ve called Rythmologia, but is actually ‘Delusions of Alien Control Part 4′. They’re also showing an extract of my 2003 piece, Structure Interne.

I have a gig next weekend (24th) at state51, 8-10 Rhoda Street, London E2 7EF. It’s the first gig for my new outfit, Mabuse. Brand new software is now !finally! ready, so it should be fresh. This no presentation, it will be the real deal. No holding back this time.

It’s part of an evening called LURK. It will be great. Ollie Bown will be playing too, which I feel should be most excellent. Slub are organising (cheers alex) - I caught the end of their set at the New Cross Inn last monday and it was great. I asked Alex if he’d done a flyer and he said he had, but it was only in ascii. Great.

O.K. There’s been a nice reaction to the thesis extract I placed here last week. I’ve decided that I may as well stick the whole thing up on the web as I keep getting emailed about it. If you like it then you can always get in touch and say so (:-)). If you hate it then I’m sure there’s the odd small error you can cream yourself over for the rest of eternity.
